Quick Reference

  • All orders must be pre-paid by the KDOT employee and submitted for reimbursement.
  • Shipping & Handling for compliant apparel is reimbursable
  • We strive to ship most orders complete. Depending on customization, some orders may take up to 25 days to ship.
  • All t-shirts, polo-style shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, and rainsuits must be ANSI Class 3 compliant and high visibility orange or yellow/green to be eligible for reimbursement.
  • Rain suits (or a rain coat and rain pants purchased separately) are reimbursable as long as they are 100% waterproof and meet the Hi Vis Class 3 requirements. "Water resistant" raingear is not reimbursable.
  • Employees engaged in nighttime or low visibility activities MUST wear KDOT approved ANSI Class 3 retro-reflective top garment and Class E pants or Gaiters. If working behind concrete safety barrier, new alignment or closed road an ANSI Class 3 top can be worn in lieu of ANSI Class E pants or gaiters. In addition, when flagging you will also need to wear KDOT approved orange headgear.
  • The only hat eligible for reimbursement is an ANSI compliant Orange hard hat. "Cowboy style" hard hats are eligible as long as they are orange. Reflective decal kits for the hard hat are not reimbursable. Orange ballcaps are provided through the stockroom.
  • All employees eligible for PPE allowance may choose to divert up to a maximum of $150 of their PPE to purchase work jeans. Bib overalls can be purchased in lieu of work jeans for those that prefer them.
    • The material for both Jeans and Bib Overalls must be cotton denim, cotton duck or cotton canvas with no fashion tears or worn areas (distressed denim) in the fabric.
    • There are no color requirements for these items (camoflauge bib overalls are compliant and reimbursable).
    • Stretch denim is made of a denim cotton/polyester blend. Some jeans incorporate spandex, lycra, or other synthetic material into the fabric. No more than a 6% blend with cotton is allowed to be reimbursed.
    • If you wear bib overalls, you must wear a Hi Vis Class outer garment over the bibs while working on or near the roadway.
    • Work jeans and bib overalls are considered taxable by IRS regulations - refer to KDOT policy for more information. Only insulated coveralls and bib overalls are eligible for reimbursement
  • KDOT will not reimburse for safety vests.
  • If you need specialty safety equipment, contact your KDOT Manager for assistance.
